大学での初めての学び

　I entered Japan Women’s University on April 3rd on a bright cloudless day. Not so many days have passed since I graduated from high school, but once I put on a new business suit, I felt I had turned into a college student. I major in international culture at university. There are various programs in my department that I can learn to know what I want to explore when I go abroad. I have a dream to succeed overseas in the future. To complete my dream, I want to expand my knowledge and to learn from and support other students with the same dream while in university. Just a few days ago, I finished the entrance ceremonies and course registration. I am excited to take classes because there are a great many classes that can be taken outside of the required classes in my undergraduate department. I also appreciate being able to study in a special education environment. Now, I am going to talk about the difference between high school and university based on my initial experience.
　The biggest difference that I feel is to “take action by myself.” I think university is a place where people can learn their own ways. I am sure that it’s not easy to make your own school schedule and to use your free time efficiently. I think that I should not have to depend on teachers, friends and my parents, but rather I have to act on my own responsibly.
　On the one hand, university life is free from control, but on the other hand, it is significant to act on my own and to understand how much knowledge can I acquire by taking action and doing things myself. I have become a university student and want to challenge everything no matter what. I am sure that my various experiences at university will continue to increase and bring me valuable rewards in the future. I do not want to be afraid to challenge what I am interested in while in university. I also want to increase my possibilities with my own original ideas and plans and be mindful to be grateful for this opportunity.

　私は4月3日に青空の広がる日本女子大学に入学しました。高校卒業してからそこまで日は経っていないのにかかわらず、スーツを着ると大学生になるんだという実感がわきました。私は国際文化学科に進学しました。国際文化学科では海外で自分の学びを探究できるなど多様なプログラムがあります。私は、将来海外で活躍できる人になりたいという夢があります。そのために国際文化学科で語学力や知識を増やし、同じ志を持った学生と高め合っていきたいです。つい先日オリエンテーション期間が終わり、履修登録も完了しました。必修プログラム以外にも様々な分野の学びが出来るプログラムが充実しているので、このような環境で学べることを幸せに感じ楽しみにしています。入学して一週間が経ち、私が感じた高校との違いを話そうと思います。
　私が一番大きく違うと感じたことは自分自身で行動することです。大学は高校とは違い自分の学びたいことを探究できる場所です。どのように時間割を作るか、そして空いた時間をどう有効活用していくかがとても重要になると感じました。いつまでも先生や友達、家族に頼るのではなく自分で責任を持って行動しなければいけないと実感しました。
　大学は自由な場所ではあるがその反面、自ら行動しそこで得た知識をどのくらい自分のものに出来るかが重要視されます。私は大学生になり、失敗しても良いからいろいろなものにチャレンジしたいと思います。その経験がいつか何倍も大きくなって返ってくると思います。この四年間、興味を持ったものには怖がらずにチャレンジし、初心を忘れずありがとうという感謝の気持を持って自分の可能性を広げていきたいです。
