1年間テキスタイル工芸と向き合って

　I took a course on textile crafts from April 2024 to January 2025. During that time, I improved my skills making Haute couture lace pieces. My concept was “the top of a wedding dress” and I expressed its gorgeousness by decorating with sequins and beads.
　When you hear the word “Haute couture dress”, the scene of beautiful models walking down the runway at a luxury brand’s collection season will come to your mind. In fact, all of the parts are made by hand, thus it takes an enormous amount of time and patience. I had difficulty in adjusting and matching the pattern of the dart, underarm, hemline and shoulder sewing. This is an essential process in order to make it look like it’s seamless. However, as an amateur, I struggled with it.
　Through taking this class, I gained new insight. When you accomplish your objective, you should realize how you obtained growth during the process. In the beginning, I was just interested in Haute couture dresses, and I didn’t exactly understand the required details and arduousness of the process. Therefore, after the first semester passed, I hesitated to continue. On the other hand, I had a strong intention to complete my work, so I chose to keep taking it. When it was completed and I looked at my work, I felt a sense of accomplishment and a new me standing on the starting line in a new field. Also, I’m sure that this experience has changed me. In the rest of college life, I’d like to grow by having a strong spirit no matter what kind of challenges I encounter.

　私は、2024年の4月から「テキスタイル工芸演習」の講義にて、前期、後期と一年を通して、オートクチュールのレース作品に用いられる手法で、トップスを自身の寸法に合わせ製作した。私は、“ウェディングドレスのトップス部”をコンセブトにし、ウェディングドレスの持つ華やかさをスパンコールやビーズの装飾によって表現した。

　オートクチュールドレスという言葉から高級ブランドがシーズン毎に発表するコレクションにて、美しいモデルたちがランウェイを颯爽と歩く、そんな華々しさを彷彿とさせられるのではないか。実は、オートクチュールドレスはすべて手縫いで作られる為、膨大な時間を要し、根気のいる作業を経て作られる。苦労した点として、ダーツ、脇、へムライン、肩縫製の柄合わせ作業が挙げられる。縫い合わせる箇所を違和感なく自然に繋がっているようにさせる為に大切な作業なのだが、素人の私にとって、この自然になるように柄合わせをしていくことが難しかった。

　1年間、この講義を受講し、一つ大きな学びを得た。初志貫徹は、その過程に大きな成長と意義があるということだ。単なるオートクチュールドレスへの憧れ、興味から足を踏み入れた分野で、実際には実に細かく、膨大な時間を要したため、後期も引き続き受講するかを悩んだ。しかし、最後までやり抜きたいという私の一つの意地によって完成に至った。そして、完成した自身の作品を見て、”世界に一つだけのレース作品”を手を抜かずに作り上げた達成感と、新境地のスタートラインに立ったような新しい自分を感じることができた。そして、これらの成長は、一年間の過程の中で育まれ、最終的に一つの大きなメッセージ性を帯びて私の内側に宿るのではないか。これからの学生生活で、日々の中にちょっとした挑戦心を持ち、やがて大きく成長していきたいと思う。
