Today, I would like to talk about what I have tried since I entered university. From a young age, my hobby has been designing small items such as bags, and until I was a high school student, I often drew the designs I had in mind. As a college student, however, I started sewing because I wanted to make the designs I had drawn for real as I had more free time. I was not good at making aprons and such things in home economics, so trying to sew was a big challenge for me.
　　When I actually started sewing, there were many things I did not understand. So, I started with the help of my grandmother. My grandmother was working with a sewing machine. She was good at sewing because she often sewed various things such as lab coats and aprons. The first thing I made was a drawstring purse. The points are that the upper and lower cloths are changed, and that a lace is attached. It was very difficult to make from a piece of cloth. In particular, the first process of making the pattern did not go well. I tried many times but it did not work out nicely. I almost gave up. However, I managed to complete it with the help of my grandmother. I will never forget the excitement of holding in my hand what had only been a picture for a long time. Also, this purse made while struggling with various things has a warmth for me that cannot be felt by anyone else or through just buying it.
　　A drawstring purse with a design unique in the world and handmade warmth is my treasure. Why don't you start doing things that you could not take on before because you did not have enough time? I am sure there will be new discoveries and that they will be meaningful for you.

　今回、私は大学に入ってから挑戦したことについてお話しさせていただきます。元々、バッグなどの小物をデザインすることが趣味で高校生までは考えたデザインを絵に描くことをよくしていました。大学生になり、自分の時間が増えたことで書き溜めたデザインを実物にしようと思い、裁縫を始めました。家庭科でエプロンを作る実習などが得意ではなかったので、裁縫をしてみようとすることは私の中ではかなりの挑戦でした。
　私は実際に裁縫を始めようとしたところ、わからないことがたくさんあり、祖母に手伝ってもらいながらのスタートでした。私の祖母はミシンのお仕事をしていました。よく、白衣やエプロンなど様々なものを縫っていたので裁縫は得意でした。私が初めて作ったのは巾着です。上下の布を変えていることと、レースをつけたことがポイントです。一枚の布から作ることはとても大変でした。特に、初めの型紙作りは何度やっても上手くいかず心が折れそうになりました。しかし、なんとか祖母の力を借り完成しました。ずっと絵であったものが、手元にあることの感動は忘れられません。また、様々なことに苦戦しながら作ったこの巾着は誰かにもらったり、買ったりしては感じられない温かさがあります。
　世界に一つしかないデザインと手作りの温かさを持った巾着は私の宝物です。皆さんも時間がなくてなかなか挑戦できずにいたことを始めてみませんか？きっと、新たな気づきや発見があり有意義なものになると思います。
